PHILADELPHIA MEMORIES

PHILADELPHIA CONCERT - September 1999

With Mr Bruce Springsteen in the news so much lately, my mind keeps going back to an amazing experience at one of his concerts in Philadelphia many years ago.
A never to be forgotten evening and I believe, the best concert I have ever been too and I’ve been to a good few with some of the greatest stars and bands during my lifetime.
I had been invited to the concert by my father in law, Mickey, who lived in New Jersey and was a top “Rough Diamond” of a man, working class and a superb electrician to boot.
As Bruce was indeed a Jersey Boy, born and bred, and New Jersey was just across the Delaware river from the city of Philadelphia, the concert was packed full with a very local population.
As the concert proceeded it soon became obvious to me, that I was the only person in the audience that did not know every word to every song that evening.
So, as the evening progressed, I found myself witnessing, almost from the outside, what seemed and felt like an incredible religious event, led by a young messiah, performing on a stage, and leading his massive congregation of followers in a truly spiritual experience.
It therefore remains in my memory as the most amazing, incredible and enjoyable concert I have ever attended in my entire life.
Thank you Bruce for wonderful evening and long may you continue to produce these stunning concerts that are truly inspiring.
